Chris Masters is a successful author from Australia who published Flawed Hero, an expose book focused on an Australian soldier portrayed to the media as a war hero, but in actuality had committed unforgivable atrocities overseas. Furthermore, during this segment airing, breaking news was actively being realized, requiring quick and accurate changes to the script to match the events unfolding!
This segment required deep research and provided context for viewers to quickly understand the importance and serious tone of this segment. My responsibilities for this segment included; research, pre interview, scripting, and aggregating the visual and audio components to give this segment it's serious tone and feel.
Rebecca Ray is a popular relationship psychologist from Australia who came onto the show to discuss some current dating trends common in Australia. This segment was very lighthearted and fun to produce. Rebecca and I spoke over the phone to curate the segment exactly how she wanted it, making it both enjoyable for viewers, the station, and Rebecca!
Randy Feltface was a truly one of a kind comedian puppet, who in the summer of 2023 was announcing his upcoming tour! Logistically, this posed some challenges, as the shoot was occurring at a remote studio which needed to be prebooked, but also having a puppet as the main guest.
As part of a celebration of unity between the U.S. and Australia, the U.S. Navy gifted a ship to Australia—and their marching band was invited to perform live on Today Extra, where they also answered a few patriotic questions on air.
This was one of my favorite segments to work on. While I was living and working abroad in Australia, it brought a sense of home and pride to be producing a piece that honored both nations’ continued support and mutual respect.
Logistically, the segment came with some unique challenges. The Navy hoped to feature their full marching band, consisting of dozens of members. However, our studio could only accommodate eight. Coordinating this required working closely with conductors, Army generals, and even representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Japan.
In the end, we successfully orchestrated a compact yet powerful performance that fit the space and schedule—bringing energy, meaning, and diplomacy into the studio in a way that truly resonated.
